What’s the Deal? Ian Robinson was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in November 2021. AML is a rare and aggressive blood cancer. Over four months, he spent a total of 76 days in-patient at our local hospital and endured four rounds of intensive chemotherapy. It was rough going, physically and emotionally, but Ian survived chemo and it put him in remission! Since AML has a very high rate of relapse, Ian chose to undergo a stem cell transplant (aka bone marrow transplant) for a chance to be cured. The transplant was performed in May 2022 at Duke University Hospital. Ian and Reba lived in Durham NC for five months, as the patient and caregiver were required to live near the hospital during the initial recovery period. Brooks and Stone were home in Greenville SC and well-cared for by their grandparents and their Gower community. We are now back home, Ian is still in remission, and his recovery from transplant is going very well!
